the pain and agony.  They don't understand why your knuckles are
white.
You feel irritable more hours or days than you would like.  Sometimes, you
can't think straight.  At other times, the cravings are fierce.  (The good news
is that if you can handle it for seven minutes, it usually goes away!)  You can
hardly stand it.  It is hard to hang in there.  You need lots of assistance.
There is nothing wrong with that.  If you had cancer, you would seek lots of
medical, psychological, and social support.  You wouldn't wait (once you
were able to admit that you had that problem).  It is socially acceptable and
understandble isn't it?  Addictionologists, addiction specialists, state that
addictions appear like a disease.  You don't want to be a victim of a
disease.  However, it is a helpful construct in understanding in what is going
on inside.  As long, as you don't give in to a sick role.  You can make it!
